The Tour de Castroville

Introduction

Castroville Special Events (CSE) is organized to be a broad-based coalition of business and general citizenry with it's purpose being to work toward the expansion of the Castroville area's special events.

Said organization is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal code.

The Mission of CSE is to be responsible for the oversight, development and financial support of special events within the Castroville area.

The mission will be accomplished by providing assistance, service and support to the Castroville area community of donors.

Since its inception CSE has been responsible for the oversight and operational function of events like the annual Tour de Castroville, a Walk, Run & Ride, event with a 5K & 10K walk or run, and a 30 & 60-mile cycling route. Participation includes around 270 registrants and 60 volunteers.

In addition to this sports activity, CSE is heavily involved with the annual City’s July 4th events, which have ranged from a single day to multiple days of runs, concerts and fireworks. Support for these types of events is provided by the Board of Directors, volunteers and funding support.

Another aspect of CSE is the awarding of a scholarship to a Medina Valley High School (MVHS) graduating senior who plans to pursue a degree and career in journalism, photo journalism or a closely related field. This award is in coordination with the counseling staff of the MVHS and presented during the annual scholarship awards ceremony.
